Air Vent, Inc.

Recall Q&A for Certain Electric Motors for Roof and Gable Mounted Attic Fans

Sold from 2003 to 2013

Step-by-step instructions to help identify if you have a recalled electric motor for a roof or gable-mounted fan are available at the following links:

Q: What is the product being recalled?

A: The recall covers certain electric motors used in Air Vent roof and gable mounted attic fans that were sold between August 2003 and December 2013 with model numbers:

  • DOW-136-0-34-XIN

  • DOW-136-0-26-XIN

  • DOW-136-0-40-XIN

  • DOW-136-0-40-XIN-3/4”

  • D-RE-PSC-127/20-4P1SP

The recalled motors can be identified by the distinctive vent pattern on the motor end bell.

Q: How can I tell if my product is affected by the recall?

A: The recalled motors were all sold from August 2003 to December 2013, so if you purchased an Air Vent product outside of that time period, it is not affected. The recalled motors also have a distinctive end bell design where all vents align on the outer ring of the motor end bell using an alternating pattern of two long vents then two short vents.

Motors with end bell designs where all vents align on the inner ring of the motor end bell using alternating patterns of one long vent then one short vent are not affected by this recall (see photos below).

Q: When were the recalled products sold?

A: The recalled motors were sold from August 2003 to December 2013.

Q: Does the recall cover current Air Vent products/models?

A: No. Air Vent did not change/update the model numbers since 2013, but any motors or fans with motors sold after 2013 with one of the identified model numbers are NOT affected by the recall. Unaffected motors are easily distinguishable from those that are affected and covered by the recall. Please see question and answer above regarding the distinctive end bell design.

Q: How does Air Vent know that current products/models are not affected?

A: Products/models manufactured and sold since 2013 do not contain recalled motors, which are the source of the potential issue.

Q: Why is the product being recalled?

A: The recalled motors may pose a risk of a thermal event.

Q: I have a recalled product, how can I participate in the recall?

A: Please go to the link provided in the recall press release and submit a request for a refund. Note that you will be required to provide a photo of the fan that clearly shows the motor end bell to submit for your refund. Once your submission is validated, Air Vent will then process your refund.

Q: What should I do with my product until my refund arrives?

A: Do not use fans with recalled motors. Please ensure that power is turned off to the fan such that it is no longer in use.

Q: My product appears to be working just fine. Can I continue to use it?

A: No. Even if the fan/recalled motor appears to be operating normally, we are asking all affected consumers to immediately stop using the fans and to participate in the recall.

Q: How long will it take for me to receive the refund?

A: Please allow approximately 4-6 weeks from the date you contacted us for processing of your refund. We apologize for any inconvenience and assure you that we are working as quickly as possible to issue your refund.
